Warts

Warts

Our experienced team sees patients daily at Southside Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery in its three locations in Tulsa, Muskogee, and Broken Arrow, OK, and are experts at treating warts.

While our providers provide many skin services, they are here today to explain these pesky and irritating growths.

All About Moles

Moles are the human papillomavirus and are contagious, as you can pass them on to someone else if that person touches this area. Moles present themselves as small, rough, grainy, pale pink or gray in color. Sometimes, you may notice that this growth has tiny black spots through it, which are small blood vessels.

If you have growths on your hands and someone shakes your hand and touches the area, you can pass them on to that person. However, it takes time for that person to develop this growth, from two to six months.

Southside Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery in Tulsa, Muskogee, Broken Arrow, OK, says that warts have been around since the beginning of time and are unsightly, embarrassing, uncomfortable, painful, and pesky to have on your skin.

They are common and usually harmless, although five types of growths develop on different body parts.

  • Common: hand palm/fingers/toes/knees
  • Plantar/Myrmecial-type/Mosaic-type/Flat: soles of the foot
  • Filiform: eyelids/around the mouth/nose/neck/under the chin
  • Periungual: fingernails/toenails
  • Genital: women who develop these at the cervix/genital area are at risk for cervical cancer, which warrants an immediate doctor visit.

Sometimes, these growths disappear on their own; if not, see our doctor. See our dermatologist if you develop them on your face, mouth, nose, or genitals. See your doctor if they are bleeding, show infection, are painful, or have color changes. If you have diabetes or an autoimmune deficiency like HIV or AIDS, see your doctor.

There are many over-the-counter home remedies for these growths. However, it is best to see your dermatology doctor because you could develop a secondary skin issue if you do not treat them correctly.

Our doctor can freeze the area with liquid nitrogen, which works well to remove them. Surgery is considered if other treatments do not work.
